Neon lights flashed, car horns bopped, speakers announced the latest news or the next forbidden law to passerby pedestrians, and conversations tried to dominate the overpowering sounds of the city. It was a busy evening for the buses and trams from people leaving work or just starting work at factories or businesses that were permitted to exist in this restrictive society. Do this and that, abide by the law, don't even think about going against the social norms, and you'll do just fine.
A woman wearing shades in one of the groups leaving the trams slipped her hands into the pockets of her worn, dark grey fleece coat and took a sharp left down a less crowded street. It was odd seeing someone wear sunglasses at night, but an explanation of sensitivity to neon lights to any inquiries usually abated curiosity. Those lights had a way of bringing on eye fatigue.
The woman stopped at a corner, took a look around, and returned to following the sidewalk to her destination, wherever that may be.
Leah had hears news, whispers, and gossip about a resistance in this city trying to gather resources to overthrow the totalitarian government. Even with her skills at her disposal, locating any semblance of a lead had turned cold just when she thought she had found a trail. For once, she wasn't out bounty hunting. Taking down a powerful governing body of this caliber would require all the help it could get, but she knew finding them would take time and a great deal of patience.
In the meantime, she would stop a mugging or two, break up fights, and so. When not participating in those activities, she would wander the streets, talk to people, and try to expand her social circle. The more people she knew, the greater chance there would be in catching any chances of finding the Resistance. The net was still too wide to snag anything.
For tonight, Leah chose to walk a great distance in the city, and kept her ears open for any abnormal or hushed conversations. Time was on her side, and one way or another, she would find something.
